According to a resident witness, Taliban live detrimentally to the poor Tajik populations of Ishkashim and of the Afghan Wakhan corridor. They reportedly brought in forces from other parts of the country as well as suicide attackers. This could be explained by the conflicting relations with Tajikistan.
No rights for Afghan Tajiks
In Ishakashim and in Wakhan corridor, there is actually no war. But there is a lot of problems like no respect for Human rights. Only Taliban are in power, 95% of them are Pashtun. Taliban don’t give any rights to the people who aren’t with them. Afghan Tajiks are deprived from their basic rights.
Local witness
In these weeks, Taliban are busy with collecting money, goats, sheep and other animals, wheat, barley from the poor people from their harvest.
Pamir Institute: another witness said, a couple of weeks ago, that Taliban were taking one among ten animals in breeders livestock.
Bringing suicide attackers and other fighters in Ishkashim and in Wakhan corridor
Nowadays more Talib’s soldiers are coming from other parts of Afghanistan to Ishkashim.
Local witness
They even bring their suicidal fighters from other parts of Afghanistan to Takhar province and Badakhshan province. Because there are borders with Tajikistan and because the political relations between the Taliban and the Tajikistan government are not good. They threaten each other.
Taliban settlements in Wakhan corridor
Pamir Institute: the other witness said that Taliban settled only in Khundud, as far as Wakhan is concerned. They would occasionally move across Wakan and Little Pamir. But they would not have any other permanent places in Wakhan than Khundud. Their number would be around 40. And they would be Afghan Tajik.
Yes they are Tajik Sunnis. No Ismailians are part of Taliban. However, among them, the top commender is a Pashtun.
Local witness
A few of them permanently stay in Qali e Panja police station (a stronghold built according to NATO protection standards).
And a group of them is already in Gaz Khan, after Qala e Panja.
